no matter what you should shampoo it out after an hour or so otherwise you risk having your hair break off, dry out, or fall out. but you definatley need to check with the directions on the box as a guide.

Keep checking on it every 5 minutes or so until you get the colour you're happy with. The guidelines are just there as a rough guide.

Any time color is applied to the hair, it should NOT be shampooed for 48 hours!!!! That's how long it takes for the cuticle layer (outer layer) of the hair to close. If you shampoo it before the 48 hours is up, you could wash some of the color out. If you are going to get your hair permed, wait a good two weeks before doing so.
