Next week I'm using Clairol Born Blonde to completely bleach my dark brown hair after I do the strand test and all that jazz. I was wondering, is it possible for me to also add highlights to the bleached hair? It will probably damage my hair, but I want some texture in it too. Light blonde with platinum blonde highlights is what I'm going for. Will the color come out right, or do I have to wait a certain amount of weeks before highlighting it?
I know the easiest solution would be to go to a professional, but I'm not spending tons of money for something I know a bit about and that I can do at home.

You can do the highlights right away, but just be very careful when putting them in! Use foils to make sure the bleach only goes where you want it to. Your hair won't feel as soft as it did before bleaching it all over, and any damage is going to come from the initial bleaching. For the most part, highlights don't do that much damage, depending on what texture your hair is (it can make your hair frizzier if it naturally has any frizz). The color should come out right if you are using good products. The one problem is that you could come out with orange/yellowed hair instead of platinum, and that's always a problem with bleaching darker hair. But, that would go wrong in the overall bleaching, not the highlights. You should be good to go with those. good luck! :)

Something you know a bit about..lol...Cant wait to see the outcome.
Sad how everyone loves there hair but doesn't want to pay to keep it up.
Oh well, since you hair is dark the color you want will probably take a few times to get, you will probably end up with some orange in it. You are smart enough to know that yes, you should wait at least two weeks before adding the high lights.
Good luck...your going to need it

I agree with Wendy, you are heading tword disaster. You will look like Ronald McDonald with orange hair. If there is bleach under your dark hair, at least you don't have to worry about that because it will break off once you try to lighten it again.

Open the flood gates, here come the tears. Honey please don't do this to yourself. First of all if you think that you can highlight over the bleach to lighten it up then there is no way you should even think about this. I am sorry to say that you don't have a clue here. If this was easy to do at home then everyone would have great hair color. They don't. Please save your self the heart ache- go to a salon and love your hair. Best of luck.
