How do you protect chemically treated hair from chlorine? Is it safe to swim?

My hair is highlighted. I want to regularly swim laps in the pool. Is this safe to do with highlights in my hair? (IE: They're not going to go green)

How long should I wait?

What's the best way to protect chemically treated hair from chlorine?

The best way to protect your hair is to wear a swim-cap. I know it's not fashionable, but it's really the best way. If you don't want to wear a cap, you can buy one of the special shampoos that are supposed to remove chemicals and keep your hair from turning green. Paul Mitchell Shampoo Three is a good one, but there's also Ultraswim that I've heard is good.
